Today was absolutely fabulous! The weather was warm and sunny! I was able to get out and about and explore the coastline a little.
Ragga, who is a weaving expert gave us an amazing lecture on the history of Icelandic textiles. Her full name is Ragnheiður Björk Þórsdóttir so everyone calls her Ragga. Whew!
Got some time in the studio to begin wrapping Medusa’s tail with Fosshape. It is a slow process. Fosshape has a certain percentage of shrinkage when heating so today I did some heat tests. It wrapped and shrank to the wire form very nicely. I’m working my way down the tail. It’s a little tricky to wrap the section that curves around. Still working out the engineering of the form to be free-standing. Working on coiling her tail in a way to counter balance the heavier top part and still have appear to be in motion. Louis suggests using stones inside to counter-weight. It may work but frame still seems flimsy, and without the torso, arms and head.
