Artist Eve Eggleston, Fairy heads, and a Tiny Dada Art Show!

Today was a whirlwind day of creating and exploring.

Meet artist Eve Eggleston from Portland, Oregon. She’s a 2-D traditional artist that focuses on fantasy worlds and the figure. Here at Orquevaux, she is creating amazing wood burning and also exploring oil painting. She often works in the monochromatic with ink-work and fine line, but is moving toward incorporating more color into her work. (I think she will be successful with that!)

She says that two asks she often gets from people are to create a tarot card deck and tattooing. In 2025, she will be attending a program to learn tattooing. She feels wood burning is helping her segway into the tattooing realm. Personally, I feel she’d be great at it! I don’t have a tattoo, but I would go to her for my first!

On the figurative side, in 2019, Eve began doing figure modeling. She has a Masters in social practice art, a community based approach, from University of Indianapolis. She taught figure drawing, still life and more at Ivy Tech comm. college. If that wasn’t enough to be impressed about, she also received a state grant in conjunction with Indy arts commission to get supplies and cover rent to create an affordable figure drawing group for people to learn and practice.

(I love her turquoise hair and I secretly thinks she’s a mermaid!) Check out her work – https://www.instagram.com/eveggleston_art/

Fairy Heads!

Yesterday, I was frustrated with getting my fairy’s head just right. I ended up creating 5 heads in total! Today, the 5th one did the trick. I learned a lot and ended up with an amusing bowl of fairy heads that seems to be a work of art all in itself! So now my fairy is complete! She’s sexy, sultry and a temptress with sugar cubes and absinthe. If you drink too much absinthe, she may just visit you in your drunken, dreamy stupor!

Dada is Tada!

A wonderful exhibit came while we were here.  Former residency attendee, Allison Beda created a show titled, Tiny Dada Art Show. It is currently on a world tour and is looking for all sorts of new venues in new locations. If you would like to host the show, let them know! I’d love to bring them to the DC area. Yes, there are some fiber pieces in the show!

It’s charming, fun, tiny, unexpected and full of Dadaism. And the wonderful thing is that it all fits in a suitcase! I typically make things very large, but what I’m working on here (Green fairy) is small. This show changed my perspective on the small and how impactful it can be. It just harmonizes with what I’m working on. Interesting how ‘little’ coincidences come to be. I’ve captured  a few of the works below.

Last but now least, I want to give a shout out to chef Marie Gingembre and her crew! Her food is amazing! My pants are not going to fit by the end of this month! Every day we get three meals of scrumptious French food! I will go home fat & happy. <3
