Imogen Brewer, Goats & Mushrooms

Meet Imogen Brewer! She a mixed-media artist from Melbourne, Australia. She does drawing, charcoal, experiments with inks & paint and more. She became interested in art when she got into henna painting on hands. At university, she did two years of architecture, but being the natural artist she is, she changed her major and received a BA in creative arts majoring in visual arts from Deakin University in Victoria, Australia.

She is enthusiastic about exploration in her art. Jumping from watercolor to sketching to charcoal, etc., she does it all. She discovers through her process of what she is trying to say artistically. She lets her art speak to her and she isn’t afraid to explore and see where it leads her.

Her purpose for applying to this residency was to prove to herself that she belongs in the art world. We all struggle with that. Imogen is embracing her creative side and re-introducing herself again to the creative beyond. https://www.instagram.com/imogen_brewer/

Goats!

The Chateau has chickens & goats. They are adorable and friendly. I’ll have to investigate these guys better another day, but who doesn’t love an adorable goat? On my little walk today, there mushrooms too. Anyone know what kind they are? There is so much to explore here and I’ve only just begun.

Green fairy project…

I made a few sugar cubes out of white and metallic/sequin yarn. When making absinthe, it is poured into a clear glass. Then a special slotted spoon is laid on top of the glass. A sugar cube sits on the spoon and ice water is dripped onto the sugar cube. This process turns the absinthe into a pearly, iridescent green while also sweetening. Absinthe tastes like licorice, which I love!

On my fairy panel, I’ll have the green fairy feeding a sugar cube to the moon to tempt him into wanting some absinthe! I think this yarn combo for the sugar cubes is perfect. It’s sparkly and glittery in the light, just like a sugar cube.
